My business model:
I design, I don't sell.

I provide services that can take a project from plan drawings to coordinating the aiming of specialty lighting on art or architectural details. The extent of my involvement is determined by the client.

As illustrated in the following process,
I design and specify. I do not sell product. I do, however, produce all the documentation necessary to get product cost quotes and assist with ordering.

The plans I produce direct contractors, builders and electricians on fixture placement and the sequencing of fixtures to be controlled. Decorative fixtures, selected by owners and interior designers, are incorporated into the plan.

THE PROCESS

Discovery

First, I ask clients for photos or other examples of lighting they like. Through conversations and review of these photos, I discover your aesthetic and we come to
a consensus of design direction.

Preliminary Design

  1.  Identify and prioritize rooms of aesthetic concern

Public rooms for entertaining or special rooms such as a home theater, library or
       office are generally a priority.
Private rooms such as bedrooms might be of secondary
concern and utilitarian rooms such as laundry third on the list.

  2. Design a rough lighting plan for each room to confirm design direction

  3. Establish a budget to enable forward movement of the project

Client approval of the preliminary design phase leads to design development.

Design Development

  1. Design final lighting concept

  2. Fixture and lighting control designations

  3. Fixture specifications for cost estimates

  4. Present estimates and plan to client, and adjust plan as needed

Client approval at this phase leads to construction documents.

Construction Documents

Develop the final plan documents for contractor reference indicating fixture specifications and switching locations.

Jobsite Administration (Optional)

Oversee implementation of approved lighting plan

  1. Oversee electricians in placing recesses lighting in rough-in framing of construction as per plan. Resolve joist or mechanical conflicts and update plan documents per revisions.

  2. Work with owner, interior designer or architect to incorporate special lighting into architectural details, or cabinetry in a library, kitchen, etc. without exposing the light source.

  3. Assist with fixture and bulb orders to deliver at appropriate phases of construction

  4. Final coordination with the electrician on aiming accent lighting on art, architectural details and furnishings.
